Gulipin brand comes from 1985 when a company Soft-Tronik Creative
Computer Technology was established in West Berlin. It dealt
with a large number of issues connected with modern information
technology.
For a long time the company operated in a remote way from
its office in Berlin in a few European markets. Its Polish
branches were founded in Wroclaw, Warsaw, Gdansk, Gliwice
and Krakow in the years 1991 and 1993. Simultaneously, the
representative offices of the company were formed in Austria,
Czech, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania and the USSR. From the
very beginning Soft-Tronik was a partner to such corporations
as IBM, Compaq, 3Com, Informix, SCO, Cisco Systems, OKI,
APC, WYSE, Lexmark, Microsoft, Novell and Xerox.
Apart from distribution business operations, it was also
engaged in producing PC computers. The first Gulipin-branded
computers were made in the years 1990 and 1991 and were
assembled in co-operation with a Wroclaw company Elwro.
A vast majority of the then production was distributed through
the representative offices of the company in Moscow, Saint
Petersburg, Tbilisi and Kiev to the markets in the former
USSR.
On October 1st, 1993r Gulipin Sp. z o.o. separated from
its parent company Soft-Tronik.
In February the head office of Soft-Tronik was moved to
Wroclaw.
Gulipin was selected by Packard Bell to co-operate in scope
of Packard Bell's computer assembly and sales in Poland.
The first computers left Gulipin's production line on
March 1st, 1996.
In November 1997 Gulipin Sp. z o.o. and Soft-Tronik as
well as a few companies re-joined to establish a holding
Soft-Tronik Polska Sp. z o.o. It carried on quite large-scale
business operations, and it continued to produce Gulipin's
computers sold through distribution channels. The distributors
offered them on the final user market, and often won the
big and prestigious tenders.
It was the moment when a large number of unique and innovative
technological
solutions were designed, which distinguished Gulipin's computers
at the background
of the competition. As one of the first companies it produced
the PC computers based
on multi-processor main boards, redundant power supplies
and automatic panels controlling computer performance parameters.
Thanks to a top quality and reliability, Gulipin's computers
were well recognised.
Up till now the old 486 machines with Gulipin's logo have
been working
in some offices although they are sometimes covered with
dust.
As a result of the wrong policy, the STGroup holding went
into trouble and at the end of 2001 it declared its bankruptcy.
Since then the production of Gulipin's computers has been
suspended.
A large number of distributors who bought Gulipin's computers
could hardly accept this fact that from day to day one of
the better-sold brands disappeared from the market.
Netspace, the Warsaw-based integrator and leading distributor
of Gulipin's computers, has decided to bring this legendary
brand back to life. It agreed with STGroup
(in bankruptcy) to form Gulipin Sp. z o.o., which has succeeded
in restarting the production of Gulipin's computers.
